2 Poems Narrated and IllustratedI made this to narrate and illustrate some of my favorite poetry.

1st Poet: William Shakespeare
Poem: Th’expense of spirit

Th’ expense of spirit in a waste of shame
Is in action; and till action, lust
Is perjured, murderous, bloody, full of blame,
Savage, extreme, rude, cruel, not to trust;
Enjoyed no sooner but despis‰d straight:
Past reason hunted; and no sooner had,
Past reason hated, as a swallowed bait,
On purpose laid to make the taker mad:
Mad in pursuit, and in possession so;
Had, having, and in quest to have, extreme;
A bliss in proof, and proved, a very woe;
Before, a joy proposed; behind, a dream.
All this the world well knows; yet none knows well
To shun the heaven that leads men to this hell.

(Love Vs. Lust) Whats your opinion? Is a negative thing to be looked down upon? Or is it okay?

2nd Poet: Walt Whitman
Poem: from Leaves of Grass

I think I could turn and live with animals, they’re so placid
and self-contain’d,
I stand and look at them long and long.

They do not sweat and whine about their condition,
They do not lie awake in the dark and weep for their sins,
They do not make me sick discussing their duty to God,
Not one is dissatisfied, not one is demented with the mania of
owing things,
Not one kneels to another, nor to his kind that lived thousands
of years ago,
Not one is respectable or industrious over the whole earth.

(The beauty of nature compared to the ills of mankind)

3rd Poet: Mary Oliver
Poem: Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Inspires individuals to come full circle, combining the past with the future in order to bring out the best in the human spirit. In fact, the title evokes images of freedom, reliance on others and an illustration of repeated determination.

4th Poet: Me
Poem: My Immortality

I shall live now beyond my years.
And in death my immortal words shall breathe.
From hence, my thoughts show not of this fear.
And I find this life to be a majesty.
Though I, once gone, all of humanity must die.
To bury the maker but not the memories.
I rehearse my epitaph to death’s design.
And disregard the notions of future centuries.
Though this life I lived be not in vain.
To express, inspire with no voice of doubt.
My empathy shown and not disgraced.
My freedom expressed through leaps and bounds.
I now lie beneath the soil, the obituary of a man.
This last bit of literature not written by my hand.

(Is immortality true, or is it what we make it) I believe we live through our work! This is true immortality.

2 POETRY: a hip hop album K.P. 14 of 14 (A Poem 4 My Mother)A Poem 4 My Mother from POETRY: a hip hop album by Christopher K.P. Brown

Lyrics:

Hey, this is Chris
yeah, Im doing alright
how are you?
been eating
doing alright
what you been doing
been reading
been getting out of the house
thats good
yeah, Im doing alright
tryna study more

It all started for you on September 7, 1946
the second daughter of Anzelene and Johnie L. Jones
bringing you home to my aunt Reevelyn
and I know youve come a long way
since living on Vaugine Street
as a student, you went away for college
made the transition from being the student
to being the teacher but to me
what you were the best at
was being a mother
being my mother

expressed love, care, and concern for you baby boys
and even though were grown, were still your baby boys
and even though I may stray, Ill always love you mother
this is from the bottom of my heart, a poem for my mother

Left home for a while
gave birth in Tennessee to my older brother
not yet a single thought of me
dont know the whole story
but I know you had to leave
came back to Arkansas, single handedly raised that seed
that seed would grow to witness your struggles first hand
but through the struggle you taught that seed to be a man
but then another man came along
and thats when I came along
and you were left with two boys
cause soon that man that helped make me, he was gone
so with two hard heads leaning on your shoulders
you kept moving forward
worked that nine to five just so we could survive
even took that promotion when I was around age five
which meant you had to go to Dallas
I still remember that
stayed with my grandparents until you came back
but before you left you bought me this game called Hot Shot
there was this game called Hot Shot
and I played with it everyday after school
cause, you know, it reminded me of you
cause you was gone
but that was my reminder of you
thats how I thought of you
you know, that was your gift to me
and uhh I look back on it
and I dont know what happened to that game
but I realized that was just another symbol of your love
that was one of the ways you were gone but you were still there with me
you know
I love you for that ma

expressed love, care, and concern for you baby boys
and even though were grown, were still your baby boys
and even though I may stray, Ill always love you mother
this is from the bottom of my heart, a poem for my mother

words cant explain your worth
timesheets couldnt convey this womans work
like the arguments we had about me going to college
you said youd worry about the cash
I just need to get the knowledge
as a teenager I probably drove you crazy
but no matter what the action
you still loved me with a passion
now I can truly say that the hate that was once in my heart is now gone
and I know that you want to move back home
but were just trying to make the situation better for you
like you did for us
mama, we can discuss what youre going through
Im older now
you dont have to hide your pains
I want to share them with you
see were only as strong as the weakest link on the chain

it all started for me on July 6, 1984
the second son of Althedia J. Payne
bringing me home to my big brother, Perry
and I know weve come a long way since 2001 W. Havis Street
as a student I went left home for college
making the transition from a boy to a man
but to me, all the credit goes to you
my mother
my mother, who expresses love, care, and concern for her baby boys
this is from your baby boy
and even though Im growing into a man, Ill always be your baby boy
and even though I may stray, Ill be coming back to you mother
this is from my heart
a poem for my mother.

My girlfriend is away right now and I want to start a Journal of sorts. Every time I REALLY miss her or something reminds me of her I’ll write a really short message (with the date) of what happened.

I’m going to send this to her on our 9 month and hopefully it will be an extensive list of how much I mean to her.

The only problem is, is that I don’t want to come off as some sort of obsessed creep. I know she loves me and I love her.

awwww that’s so sweet..i don’t actually think she’s gonna find it stupid at all

I need some help for my Romeo & Juliet assignment.

“I can live without money, but I cannot live without love.” – Judy Garland

“A life without love is like a year without summer.” – Swedish Proverb

“At that time, I heard you say in Gdansk, ‘There is no freedom without solidarity.’ Today we need to say, ‘There is no solidarity without love.’ Indeed, there is no future for the individual and the nation (without love).” – Pope John Paul II

“Duty without LOVE is deplorable, duty with LOVE is desirable, LOVE without duty is divine.” – Sri Sathya Sai Baba

“There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love.” – Bryant H. McGill

“Where there’s marriage without love, there will be love without marriage” – Benjamin Franklin

“One can give without loving, but one cannot love without giving” – Amy Carmichael

“As love without esteem is capricious and volatile; esteem without love is languid and cold.” – Jonathan Swift

“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.” – Robert Louis Stevenson

“Love is moral even without legal marriage, but marriage is immoral without love” – Ellen Key

“Life without love is like a tree without blossoms or fruit.” – Kahlil Gibran

“Thousands have lived without love, not one without water.” – W. H. Auden

please add as much about the historical context as possible… Thankyou! :)

Well when someone got married it was mostly for protection, to get a higher status, bring children, or for money. But there’s the code of chivalry and courtly love. Courtly love actually began in the 11th century and originated in France, but it lived on until te elizabethan era. I had a project on this before and here are some really good websites to go on. Hope they help!

http://condor.depaul.edu/~dsimpson/tlove/courtlylove.html

(this website talks about courtly love when it first began in France)

http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~wesmith/214materials.html#Courtly%20Love

(press on the link courtly love)

http://cla.calpoly.edu/~dschwart/engl513/courtly/courtly.htm

(this covers the history of courtly love and the women who helped create it)
-something interesting on this website: The "courtly love" relationship is modelled on the feudal relationship between a knight and his liege lord.-

http://www.astro.umd.edu/~marshall/chivalry.html

I personally love this website because it is easy to understand and it’s in lists:

The Twelve Chief Rules in Love

From The Art of Courtly Love by Andreas Capellanus
Thou shalt avoid avarice like the deadly pestilence and shalt embrace its opposite.
Thou shalt keep thyself chaste for the sake of her whom thou lovest.
Thou shalt not knowingly strive to break up a correct love affair that someone else is engaged in.
Thou shalt not chose for thy love anyone whom a natural sense of shame forbids thee to marry.
Be mindful completely to avoid falsehood.
Thou shalt not have many who know of thy love affair.
Being obedient in all things to the commands of ladies, thou shalt ever strive to ally thyself to the service of Love.
In giving and receiving love’s solaces let modesty be ever present.
Thou shalt speak no evil.
Thou shalt not be a revealer of love affairs.
Thou shalt be in all things polite and courteous.
In practising the solaces of love thou shalt not exceed the desires of thy lover.

The Art of Courtly Love

From The Art of Courtly Love by Andreas Capellanus
Marriage is no real excuse for not loving.
He who is not jealous cannot love.
No one can be bound by a double love.
It is well known that love is always increasing or decreasing.
That which a lover takes against the will of his beloved has no relish.
Boys do not love until they reach the age of maturity.
When one lover dies, a widowhood of two years is required of the survivor.
No one should be deprived of love without the very best of reasons.
No one can love unless he is propelled by the persuasion of love.
Love is always a stranger in the home of avarice.
It is not proper to love any woman whom one would be ashamed to seek to marry.
A true lover does not desire to embrace in love anyone except his beloved.
When made public love rarely endures.
The easy attainment of love makes it of little value: difficulty of attainment makes it prized.
Every lover regularly turns pale in the presence of his beloved.
When a lover suddenly catches sight of his beloved his heart palpitates.
A new love puts an old one to flight.
Good character alone makes any man worthy of love.
If love diminishes, it quickly fails and rarely revives.
A man in love is always apprehensive.
Real jealousy always increases the feeling of love.
Jealousy increases when one suspects his beloved.
He whom the thought of love vexes eats and sleeps very little.
Every act of a lover ends in the thought of his beloved.
A true lover considers nothing good except what he thinks will please his beloved.
Love can deny nothing to love.
A lover can never have enough of the solaces of his beloved.
A slight presumption causes a lover to suspect his beloved.
A man who is vexed by too much passion usually does not love.
A true lover is constantly and without intermission possessed by the thought of his beloved.
Nothing forbids one woman being loved by two men or one man by two women.

anyway i hope this helps! If I find anything else I’ll let you know. Good luck

I have to do a project about love poems and I’d like very much to know your oppinion about them. Do you think that they are in fashon or antiquated? Are they a way to express true feelings or only simple words?I’d be very grateful if you’d tell me your oppinion, and, if you want, please tell me your age too. Thank you very much.

There are people who think they are too sophisticated to enjoy a love poem. That’s because they’ve never had one written to or for them.

Or worse yet . . . they’ve never been in love.

Good love poems warms the soul. It reminds us of what it feels like and opens us up to the possibility of seeing love differently.

Fashion is always fleeting, always temporary.
Love never cares about fashion is currently dictating.

There is love making, but what about when you love them more than that.

There isn’t enough poetry in the world to express my love for her.

Ahh the ultimate question of all time!

My husband and I have that same "issue". It is hard to express your love, devotion and feelings which runs so true and deep it is without words to express or make known an example of how it feels.

Love making does not even come close, cards and flowers are just material things, but this love is bigger than all of that combined.

The love which is a bond, spun with gold and blessed by the Gods, would overflow the universe. It is never ending, a boundless love, every part of my being, every cell that is within me feels that love.

We express it with our words, our eyes, our hands always intertwined. When we sleep our feet are always touching, we always call always yearn to be together. He is my best friend and my one true soul mate… and I am his. We must always be together if not at work, our home is our sanctuary our place where our hearts can dance with joy because we are together.
